Welcome to Your New Wiki!

Hi everyone! I'm hoping this wiki will help you keep caught up with your work and instructions, even when you miss school. I will try to put as much as possible on here in terms of resources, directions, links, and maybe even some of the work. For now, though, remember that if you miss class, it is your responsibility to catch up. Since most of the instructions will be here, most often you just may need to pick up the paper homework, the handouts, that need to be completed.

Course Expctations Prezi
Course Expectations

All course work must be done. No missing assignments at the end of the course. That is the trade-off for the flexibility and adaptations that make us different from a regular high school. So, at the end of the term, even if you have 80%, all missing work must be competed and marked to receive your ENG 40 credit.

Attendance- If you are under 18, the law says that you must attend daily. Of course, if you have life and family issues that make this impossible, that is why you are here. Good reasons not to attend are child care issues, critical situations in the family that need to be dealt with, illnesses, and job scheduling. Being sleepy in the morning because you were out til late, or gaming all night, is not a good reason to miss school. Get your priorities straight. If you are ready to commit to 10 weeks to get your ENG 40 credit and graduate, then do it. If not, don't sleep in everyday and feel guilty about it, and have to come here and apologize for it.

English is different from other subjects. Not everything can be taught through worksheets and independent modules. Lecture, demonstrations, examples and class discussion are much more necessary to understand the many varied open ended concepts. This is why it is important to be here as much as possible.

Each day is a double class. That means that we have to cover enough work for two classes. It does not mean that we cover the work for one class and give you double the amount of time to complete it. You need to be productive while you are here or you will have lots of homework. If your IPod music or cell phone are distracting you too much, I will ask you to leave them off or to put them on my desk.

Even if you have legitimate situations as mentioned above, you still need to attend at least once or twice a week, and you need to collect, complete and hand in work at least once or twice a week. If I am not receiving work from you, your name will be deleted from the class list.

For any of your work that can be done on a computer, you can either print it and hand it in, or better yet, you can e-mail it to me at sharianderson0@gmail.com. You can save it in your H: drive at school, or in "My Documents" at home and send it in an e-mail as an attachment. Better yet, if you are good at computers, and have a gmail account, you can "UPLOAD" your work in "Google docs". It's really easy, and then I can reply to you, with marks on the paper.

Final Provincial Exam
The final exam is the first week in January and the first week in June. That's a long way off from middle of November when this course ends. However, you can't really study for it, but I will emphasize the types of things you need to practice. This is why we will focus on writing traits and responding to text, just like in the exam. It is worth 30% of your total mark.
